Hello Stefan,
are you able to configure your network manually?
Did the error occurs after the installation or after the first backup? Probably you made no boot after the installation and before the backup. Then you don’t know…

Betreff: [rear-users] After installing REAR, my Debian server starts without a network
Hello,
i have a very big problem. After installing in REAR on my Debian server and performing a backup, my Debian server only starts without a network. This is not good!
Okay my versions:
Debian Buster Server, REAR Version 2.4 + dfsg-1.
...
root at ldap:~# cat /etc/rear/local.conf
OUTPUT=USB
BACKUP=NETFS
BACKUP_URL="usb:///dev/sdc2"
GRUB_RESCUE=1
...
I executed the following commands to save a backup on a USB hard drive.
...
rear -v format -- --efi --force /dev/sdc1
rear -v mkbackup
...
When my server starts, I see the following note in the boot journal.
...
Mär 30 23:32:22 ldap systemd-udevd[318]: Spawned process '/usr/sbin/rear udev' [365] is taking longer than 59s to complete
Mär 30 23:32:22 ldap systemd-udevd[288]: sdc2: Worker [318] processing SEQNUM=1928 is taking a long time
Mär 30 23:33:19 ldap systemd[1]: ifupdown-pre.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

Mär 30 23:33:19 ldap systemd[1]: networking.service: Job networking.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.
Mär 30 23:33:19 ldap systemd[1]: Reached target Network.
...
help, help
What can I do to get my Debian server to start correctly again? REAR seems to be checking something during the boot process, which means that my network interfaces no longer come up. These are configured as bonding (eth0 and eth1) and everything worked until the REAR installation.
I need support.
Greetings from Stefan Harbich
