[rear-users] Successfully completed mkbackup fails to boot on any system

I'm still trying to get rear working properly.  I'm at the point where 
I've properly formatted the USB (rear -v format /dev/sde) then either 
mkrescue or mkbackup complete successfully to the same 128GB USB drive. 
When I examine the target with gparted it appears to be as expected. 
However, nothing will boot from it.

I've been scouring the various logs and support sites/forums without 
success.  Can someone please provide some links to where this issue 
might be discussed for hopeful resolution?

It feels like I'm 98% of the way to implementation but at an impass.
