You don't need to split ReaR recovery system from actual backup when using
USB, but rather have everything on one medium. (c.f.
https://github.com/rear/rear/blob/master/README.adoc#quick-start-guide)

You don't need to do this. When you start recovery with `rear recover`,
ReaR will do this for you.

This depends on what you've put into your /etc/rear/local.conf.
