[rear-users] rear 1.17.1 inconsistent uuid

So basically, if I can follow it correctly, you are saying that the
UUID was not replaced in grub.cfg/fstab?

If that is the case then I
would advise you to submit an issue for this this.

Hi!

I use
rear 1.17.1 on SLES12 and am running in problems regarding the uuid of
my boot filesystem. When I do a restore on the same machine as I created
the backup from, there will be a wrong unitfile for my bootpartition in
the initrd.

This is what I can do to reproduce the Problem…

Welcome
to Relax and Recover. Run "rear recover" to restore your system !

RESCUE BLIXESX3:~ #

RESCUE BLIXESX3:~ # cd /dev/disk/by-uuid/

RESCUE BLIXESX3:/dev/disk/by-uuid # ls -l

total 0

lrwxrwxrwx 1
root root 9 Sep 3 07:40 2015-09-02-16-23-48-00 -> ../../sr0

lrwxrwxrwx
1 root root 10 Sep 3 07:40 ef2113b0-9341-415d-a45d-6835beae7148 ->
../../sda1

RESCUE BLIXESX3:/dev/disk/by-uuid # rear recover

…

…

Works without errors. But after the restore is finished, my uuid for
/dev/sda1 is wrong:

RESCUE BLIXESX3:/dev/disk/by-uuid # ls -l

total

RESCUE
BLIXESX3:/dev/disk/by-uuid # blkid 3aceac7e-7fba-48e6-9393-984d761ca244

3aceac7e-7fba-48e6-9393-984d761ca244:
UUID="ef2113b0-9341-415d-a45d-6835beae7148" TYPE="xfs"
PARTUUID="0008ee95-01"

ef2113b0-9341-415d-a45d-6835beae7148 is the
target uuid for the filesystem which comes from disklayout.conf and it
is configured correctly in grub.cfg. But the initrd will search for
3aceac7e-7fba-48e6-9393-984d761ca244 =>
etc/systemd/system/initrd.target.wants/dev-disk-by\x2duuid-3aceac7e
\x2d7fba \x2d48e6\x2d9393\x2d984d761ca244.device. When I do a second
reboot with the rear backup and mount all Filesystems, chroot into the
rootfs and create a fresh initrd, everything works fine…

I don`t know
if the problem belongs to rear, Dracut, devicemapper, etc or whether it
is a problem at all. Do I anything wrong?

Thanks in advance!
