[rear-users] BACKUP=DP questions

Hi,
I have another question, or actually enhancement proposal:
After disk layout is recreated, rear immediately calls ‘omnir’, requesting unattended DataProtector restore from cell server. Only if this restore fails, rear prompts to try restore manually from DP GUI.
Would it be possible to expand BACKUP=DP functionality, such that user is offered manual DP GUI restore right after layout recovery (with some timeout until unattended restore starts).
The background:
- Sometimes, backup administrators deny DataProtector client requests to cell server.
- On larger environment’s the omnir may be pending, waiting for free tape-drive. This can take a long time.
Regards
Pavol

Hi again,
Just tested BACKUP=DP on SAN booting, multipathed, partitioned, md-raided layout with dataprotector restore from SAN tape from VLS library – works as charm!
20 minutes between booting into rear and login prompt on recovered system - and no cheating.

Hi,
Thanks. OK, the operation is nice, running restore right now. EXCLUDE options are not recognized, but if filesystem object name from selected dataset does not match recovered filesystem, it is skipped – so its safe.
One minor bug discovered though: sparse files are not treated. Fixed by adding '-sparse' to omnir command in 'restore/DP/default/40_restore_with_dp.sh':
/opt/omni/bin/omnir -filesystem ${host_fs} "${label}" -full -session ${SessionID} -tree ${fs} -into /mnt/local -sparse -device ${Device} -target `hostname` -log >&8
I’ll create github bug for this later today
Great tool!
Regards,
Pavol

cat /usr/share/rear/restore/DP/default/*
to get an idea how it works.
It the restore fails you still get a chance to use the GUI
